Careers at civitas.

A tool that Lives changed.

We are building the digital infrastructure for German Einbürgerung (naturalisation). For millions of people this is a step of deep biographical significance — and we ensure it succeeds without unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.

Why civitas.

German naturalisation is one of the most important invisible problems of this country.

8.3 million people in Germany live here permanently without German citizenship. Most of them have been part of this society for years — they pay taxes, raise children, build businesses. And yet, the path to formal belonging is, for many, a bureaucratic obstacle course of 18 months or longer.

We believe it doesn't have to be this way. The 2024 reform of the Staatsangehörigkeitsgesetz simplified the legal foundations. The operational implementation in the Behörden is overloaded. This is exactly where civitas. comes in: structured application capture, authority-ready documents, intelligent validation logic — on a platform that works equally for applicants, Behörden, law firms and counselling centres.

Those who work at civitas. don't build yet another SaaS product — but a socially relevant infrastructure that tangibly changes life paths. That is our motivation, and that is the bar we measure ourselves against.

How we work.

Four principles that are non-negotiable. They shape how we make decisions, with whom we cooperate and to whom we entrust responsibility.

01

Self-service first.

civitas. is not a consulting service provider, but a tool. We build software that enables people to solve their concerns themselves — not software that creates dependency. This changes how we build features, how we shape support, and how we deal with complexity.

02

Take law seriously.

Citizenship law is legally complex and politically charged. We work with certified specialist lawyers, strictly observe the line between technical assistance and legal advice (RDG, Legal Services Act), and we do not disguise our limitations.

03

Speed through clarity.

We ship continuously, make decisions quickly and revise them when new data warrants it. What we don't do: get stuck in endless discussions before writing code. Clarity comes from building, not from planning.

04

Think like an authority, don't sound like one.

Our target audience is private individuals and authorities (Behörden) simultaneously. We understand how municipal administrations think — and we translate that into language that remains comprehensible to applicants. Achieving both at the same time is the real challenge.

Application process

Four steps. Clear, fair, no surprises.

We know that application processes are tiring. Our goal is to quickly tell you whether it's a fit — and if so, enable a well-founded decision on both sides.

Frequently asked questions.

What we are often asked — and what we want to clearly tell applicants in advance.

How much office presence do you expect?
We are based in Düsseldorf, but mostly work remote. People who live in Düsseldorf are often in the office. For everyone else: remote is the default, with two to three shared on-site weeks per year (strategy, planning, social togetherness).
What languages do we speak internally?
Internally we work in German — because our clients (authorities, law firms) work in German. English works equally well in technical contexts. Multilingualism is a plus for product development, but not mandatory.
How do you handle backgrounds from a migration context?
We are building a product for people with a migration background. If you bring your own migration experience — as an applicant, adviser, family companion — that's a professional qualification, not a diversity bonus. This perspective makes the product better.
Do you pay for trial work?
Yes, if the task represents real work volume (more than one to two hours). Take-home tests for engineering roles are paid at a fair hourly rate, regardless of outcome. We do not believe in unpaid trial work.
